My conversation journey began at Kishoka Youth Organization, an environmental conservation group based in Likoni constituency. As a volunteer in the organization, i intensively participated in indigenous tree planting at shimba hills forest. I also carried out environmental protection and advocacy programmes to the community. I am also keen in the conservation and remediation initiatives of our aquarium ecosystem including coral reefs along the Tudor creek of Mombasa. I have immensely contributed to the rehabilitation and restoration of mangroves forests along kibarani highway and kindunguni areas of the South Coast. I have also participated in the reclamation of kibarani dump site now known as miracle park under the auspices of Mombasa Cement. I have a keen interest as an environmental science student in the management of domestic wastes and as a result i began in 2019 a community engagement programme on the importance of separation of domestic wastes for proper disposal. At S. John Ambulance Volunteers, i have led tree planting and cleaning excersise initiatives at Mamangina water front which takes place every two month. In conjunction with flipflopi boat, i have immensely contributed to the mitigation of ocean Plastic pollution at mtongwe beach, shelly beach and nyali beach in Mombasa. It is imperative to note that during this initiative, we also carried beach cleaning excersises with an aim if collecting 20 tonnes of non- biodegradable waste materials at the nyali creek and Mombasa beach. Courtesy of World Wild Fund and the Kenya Wildlife Service, i have contributed in the conservation and protection of threatened animal species in amboseli and masaai mara national park. I further carried out forest remediation excersise by building gabions along the local forest in Amboseli park. I have formed environmental behavior change communication groups within my college, Kenya Coast National Polytechnic. As the green club chairperson, i have been keen in recruiting youthful students in the fight against global warming and climate change through dissemination and production of creative educative content by the means of creative arts in bid to have majority of students taking an active role in the mitigation of environmental pollution. During my attachment at the National Environmental Management Authority, i developed an Initiative to oversee air pollution in industrial and residential areas in Mombasa, particularly in Changamwe and Bamburi areas. My findings were crucial in the enforcement of environmental management and coordination act (air quality regulation 2014) where companies were found not in compliance thus i can confidently say i contributed in the reduction of toxic emissions in the atmosphere. In 2020 i volunteer to participate in the restoration project at Halla park in Bamburi. I helped in planting 200 red mangrove trees at a quarry site. Mangroves are known for their capacity to absorb tonnes of carbon thus mangrove trees have played a key role in the reduction of toxic carbon in the air. Educating and sensitizing the public on the importance of green energy and use of water sparingly has been the core business of Franyo youth group in Mombasa. By cycling hundreds of kilometers within the coastal region, i have been able to carry out public awareness and sensitization against the use of unleaded gasoline and other environmental hazardous means of energy production such a the use of charcoal. I believe environmental conservation and protection can be achieved if the unaware masses are empowered and educated. In 2019, I managed to bring into existence an organic pesticides, made from eucalyptus oil and neem tree liquid extract. As an agriculture enthusiast, I have always wanted to kenyan farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices by using natural biodegradable pesticides and adoption of agroecological farming practices. By this i was one of the finalists in the sustainable agribusiness organized by Junior Achievement Kenya. Courtesy of Kenya Forest Service, I have been able to actively participate in the conversation and protection of marine artisanal fishers in Kilifi County. This was done through mass mangrove restoration and rehabilitation exercise as they were notable found to have a huge reliance on the mangrove forests for a substantial part of their existence which was threatened by the massive deforestation of the mangrove trees. Finally, through Laudato Si' Movement, a Catholic environmental conservation programme i have been able to participate in the rehabilitation and cleaning of Nairobi River and Athi River respectively. An Initiative that helped in the reduction of dumping garbages and human wastes into the two rivers.
