As a youth living in Kajiado county which is a rather dry place, the environment has become part of my entire being. Environmental conservation is something I do with much enthusiasm as I would love to make my county, and in the long run, my country, a better place. My love for the environment bloomed inside me as a little girl of 10 years. Around my home, there are a variety of flowers and trees and I made it my daily duty to make sure that they never dried up. Whenever it was possible, I would assist our gardener in planting of trees and flowers in addition to tending to them. Once my passion for the environment was rooted inside me, I never looked back. Over the years as I grew, I got to understand more about the environment and its conservation and once I joined Africa Nazarene University, I took an initiative and joined the Wildlife and Environmental club. We regularly take part in tree planting activities and even clean ups of streets and rivers around our school. Even outside club activities, I make it my responsibility to clean up the environment around me as I always say, ‘A change starts with you’. Recently, our club visited the Giraffe Centre, ( https://www.giraffecentre.org), which is home to endangered species of giraffes. I personally got to learn a lot about the giraffes at the Centre and even the ones found in various of our parks. We also got a chance to tour the Nairobi National Park and got to learn about other endangered species like the lions, ostriches, zebras, and the black rhinos. All the work done in these sanctuaries and parks is all aimed at conserving our wildlife. In my opinion, the community should be allowed free trips to such places occasionally as it raises awareness on environment and wildlife conservation. In my quest for environmental conservation, I plan on visiting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (https://sheldrickwildlifetrust.org). The SWT is a successful elephant rescue and rehabilitation organization which not only protects endangered elephants and rhinos, but also entire ecosystems and diverse flora and fauna sustained in these places of natural beauty. Our Country’s pride is in our Wildlife and Environment, and it should be protected by the government, and even us the community. In the near future, it would be my joy to work for an organization that advocates for the conservation of the environment and our wildlife. As I conclude, Environment conservation is and will always be part of me. I look forward to planting more trees, cleaning up more of our rivers and lakes and raising awareness on conservation of our environment. I am a green warrior and I strongly believe that a green future is a prosperous future.
