Generally speaking, hummingbirds are symbols of lightness and joy. Those who have a hummingbird as a totem are thought to be playful, adaptable, and can combat negativity with ease. They also serve as good reminders to live life to the fullest and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.My conservation story starts way back since when I was a young 'Sungura' scout. Both my parents were actively involved in scouting and instilled those values in us while growing up. The main rule being always be prepared, literally in everything. I am currently working in an Environment where water conservation, Good agricultural practices, Risk assessment and adaptation to climate change is a huge motto for our daily activities. I run most operations in relation to irrigation, maintenance, data collection and analysis, landscaping and agents of pollination. My role is actively enforcing smart ways of living with the immediate environment while benefiting each other simultaneously. Starting the entire project from scratch was a test in my life like no other. Being involved from site identification, land preparation and setting up of necessary amenities for a 10 Ha pilot Blueberry farm was a task I was not ready for. But being the scout I am, the always prepared one, gave me a strong sense of purpose and determination to see it through and eventually to the proposed 200 Ha the farm is projected to be. The journey so far has been a test of resilience, perseverance and commitment to the course. And just like the famous hummingbird story of doing the best it could when trying to put off the huge forest fire, I show up on a daily basis to see through the fantastic project to completion. I do not want to take credit of everything we accomplished as a company, but proud to be part of the team implementing those ideas to reality.
