Humming Bird Awards 2022

Narration

My conservation story starts at the end of 2019 when I discovered I had a passion for Woodworking which is the activity or skill of making items from wood, and includes cabinet making (cabinetry and furniture), wood carving, joinery, carpentry, and woodturning. It all began late 2019 when I wanted to move out and I figured I needed some basic furniture like a bed and a chair and I figured why not just make my own furniture? furniture that would either save space or transform into something else that was functional. I started making the furniture and as I progressed more and more people showed interest in my work and would comission custom orders and I got to build my skills as a woodworker. As time progressed I got to see and understand the importance of our natural finite resources particularly wood and I became more conscious about the environment and how I could help conserve it. My first step was using as much recycled wood as I could such as pallet wood and repurposing it into furniture and second was joining as many cleanups and tree planting activities as I could as well as educating myself and others about the importance of conserving our natural resources. Together with the Rotaract club of Nairobi Parklands I have participated in a few tree planting and cleanup exercises such as the tree planting at Kerarapon primary school where we planted 300 trees, a joint Rotaract cleanup from Multimedia university to Bomas of Kenya, Ndaragwa school tree marathon where we planted 8520 trees and most recently planting of 100 trees at Prudence rescue center in Kitengela for a total of over 9000 trees
