Humming Bird Awards 2022
Narration
I am an Environmentalist, Climate Activist, young career Journalist and a Creative. Founder Green Age Warriors, an initiative that advocates for Justice, Equality, Inclusion and Equity across all aspects of life. I advocate for Girls, Women & Youth Empowerment; Environmental Awareness & Conservation. As a servant leader, My Purpose is to Serve by giving back to the community. Growing up in a marginalized rural community in the Eastern region of Kenya, I experienced 1st hand Political, Economic, Social and Environmental Injustices. I questioned the Unjust systems and hoped for justice. Now I don't just Hope, I Take Action. I have found My Power. My Voice. I Use My Voice and Platforms to create awareness and highlight on issues affecting my community. I work with the locals at the grassroots, local leaders, schools, organizations, government and other stakeholders to drive action. I organize and volunteer in environmental & climate activities ie tree planting and clean ups; educating locals against deforestation because they fell trees for charcoal burning to provide for their families. Through economic empowerment, they will have alternative income sources to sustain their families and coexist in harmony with nature. With my initiative, we mobilize funds and conduct climate charity drives in the marginalized communities donating essentials ie food, clothing and sanitary towels to help keep girls In school and restore human dignity. As a young career journalist, I maximize on internet journalism to reach our digital generation and work remotely to represent and amplify the voice of the community. I write articles online on pressing issues in the society, creating content that is relatable to the young people; recently won an international story telling campaign by Youth4Nature and now working on my environment book. I conduct school visits in the rurals to mentor, educate and empower the youth with life skills and engaging them in fun activities ie scattering seed balls to plant trees which grow with 80% chances of survival, an idea gaining popularity amongst the Youth as they engage in outdoor excursions ie hiking, road trips & camping. I attend barazas and actively contribute towards community development. I have been elected as a leader in different organizations and climate spaces where I contribute to the best of my ability. I advocate for youth inclusion as we need to be included in policy making, decision making and implementation processes. We are the most affected generation and we are the generation that will make a difference. As Miss Earth Kenya 2020, I represented my country at Miss Earth, an international beauty pageant with an environmental advocacy. In the midst of a global pandemic, we competed virtually connecting more than 90 countries online for a Cause, exposing me to global platforms, opportunities and audiences to effectively champion for mother earth. I work closely with stakeholders and the Government ie Ministry of Environment, Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on matters environment and climate. As a model and a fashionpreneur, I understand fully the extent to which the fashion industry harms the environment as a leading pollutant in the world. I therefore take the responsibility to live sustainably to lower my carbon footprint. I educate and create awareness on this problem, sensitizing people to go green and addressing leading companies in the industry to take conscious decisions towards sustainability including eco friendly steps along the products life chain from production to consumption. I continue to address and highlight these injustices. I have been invited to speak in climate seminars and webinars where I contribute and share knowledge and Information towards these important causes. I have joined my fellow youth in various platforms, nationally and internationally to share, listen, contribute, brainstorm and be part of the solutions to these problems.
I have found My Power. My Voice. I will use my Voice to lead, serve and be an agent of change in my community, country and the world.
